6 Awesome Ways to Hack Discord for Language Exchanges
6 Awesome Ways to Hack Discord for Language Exchanges 6 Awesome Ways to Hack Discord for Language Exchanges Once upon a time, the streets were filled with kids.Sweaty, smelly and dirty creatures.Running alongside others their age, their squeals of delight echoing throughout the neighborhood. They played hopscotch, tag and hide-and-seek, and reluctantly said their goodbyes with the setting sun. Then the internet and Xbox cameAnd nothing was ever the same.Kids are now in their rooms all day and all nightâ"taking bites and sips of snacks and soda between the lulls in DOTA, amidst the clacking keyboard and the whooshing mouse.Meanwhile, they havent even met the neighbor kids. They do, however, know @Andrus457 from Hungary and @Bernhard from Germany because they, too, play PUBG.Move over, Skype.Theres a new kid on the block (bringing chips, gum and a headset!).And even if youre no longer a child yourself, you can make use of gaming tech to practice your target language with learners and native speakers all around the world. In this post, were talking about the communication platform called Discor d, and how language learners can utilize it for language exchange. What in the World Is Discord? Before Discord, gamers used Skype for real-time communication as they screamed instructions to team members playing on the other side of the globe. But it was a resource hog and affected game performance. In May 2015, Discord was released, providing seamless, simple integration for gamers. The gaming community immediately took to Discord and think it the best thing since Counter-Strike.So wheres the happily-ever-after language exchange in this fairytale? That came next. Discord was originally intended for gamers, but the platform started to attract people with all kinds of shared interests, from stock trading to fantasy football. And, yes, language learners.Language learners have found kindred spirits on the platform. And we now have a case of positive unintended consequences where exchange of information, ideas and language practice is facilitated by this thing called Discord. So lets look at how you can start using it for your language exchanges. And as youre seeking out fun target-language interactions, remember that FluentU is always here for you to keep you from ever running out of stuff to talk about. FluentU is always uploading new YouTube videosâ"like movie trailers, news, music videos, commercials and moreâ"and turning them into personalized language lessons for you. This makes it easier than ever to share authentic media with your exchange partners as well as to discuss things like viral content and popular news stories.6 Awesome Ways to Hack Discord for Language Exchanges1) Use the platform to host you and your language exchange partners.Perhaps youve already found language buddies via dedicated language exchange sites and apps like MyLanguageExchange.com or ConversationExchange.com. Discord is simply another option for a place where you can connect.Discord is very much like Skypeâ"if youre able to navigate one, youll be able to work out the other.T hey both have text, voice and video chat, plus screen sharing. But you may find Discords audio clearer and video crisper, and hey, its lighter on your CPU.2) Join a server and meet language exchange partners on Discord.Think of Discords servers as communities of people with shared interestsâ"in this case, language learning. You have servers that deal with language learning in general, like Language Practice And Learning, and also servers that focus on a specific language, like Students of Spanish. You can go to sites like discordservers.com or discord.me to search for servers that are relevant to your cause.Fortunately for us, someone named ryry013 on Reddit did the hard work for us and created a masterlist of language-related servers on Discord. Check it out to see what servers are relevant to you. For sure the list is far from complete, as new language servers are created on a daily basis, but its a good starting point. And you can always Google terms like, for example, learn germ an discord server, and get hits related to learning German. Dont narrow your search by using language exchange, though. When you join these learning communities, youll likely not only meet fellow learners, but also native speakers in those circles who are just psyched to help those who want to learn. Who knows, you might not just get a language exchange partner, but a tutor free of charge. So, how do you join a server on Discord once you find one? Click on or enter an invite. These invites are links that look like this: https://discord.gg/xxXxxXxWhen you search for the servers, youll also find the invites to join them. So click on those links and prepare for a great learning experience.3) Use the text chat feature to scope out future language exchange partners. When you first join a server, youll notice that there are two main types of channels: text and voice.Server admins can put up as many different text chats as warranted. Maybe theyll have an #Announcements section, a #Rules sect ion and even a #Grammar section. How the different text chats are organized will really depend on the folks running the server.Members can write practically anything in the text chats, from hi to requests for translations. Reading up on the text channels can be a good way to get the lay of the land. The great thing about Discord is that it keeps a history of messages, so you can play catch up and know what has been talked about in the past few days.As you read, notice those folks who are active, those who are funny, those who are extra helpful. (Also those unwittingly annoying.) Anybody who seems like a senior or leading member of the group? Take note of them. Also be on the lookout for those who regularly field language questions and give answers that knock them out of the park. After your initial surveying, its time to let people know that you exist. So go ahead, write in as many text chats as possible. (Just make sure you stay on topic.)Introduce yourself to folks by saying someth ing like Hello, everyone! Happy to be here. This opens things up for responses. And when people welcome you, write them back. Each and every one! Hit the ground running and immediately engage those people. If, on the other hand, your opening move doesnt get any response, dont lose heart. Simply jump into ongoing conversations by asking questions. For example, if you see a discussion on Spanish grammar textbooks, ask if X book is any good. Or, if you know a good one, recommend it to others.Put yourself out there and call out potential language buddies. Write something like, Anybody up for language exchange? I speak English and would love to learn some German. The text chats can be a good way to get your bearings first. Sometimes, talking to a complete stranger via audio can be nerve wracking. So exchanging a series of text messages can serve as a warm up.When youre warmed up enough, you and your fellow learners or new exchange partners can start direct messaging for more privacy.4) Use voice chats to really hone your speaking skills, or catch a language discussion/class.You can click on a voice chat and instantly be a part of it. Unlike text chats, where you can have multiple ongoing conversations, you can only join one voice chat at a timeâ"and these will be categorized by admins according to relevant language discussion topics. You might have one dedicated to Korean language practice, for example.Think of voice chats as hanging out with potentially many other people. Anybody can join and talk away. The problem is, when youve got too many people talking in your ears, it sometimes becomes incomprehensible, and beginners might feel that the interaction is happening way too fast. This is why most voice chats are ideal for advanced language learners who really just want somebody to chat with to hone their existing speaking skills. The reverse problem is finding yourself alone in a voice channel. (Well, thats just sad.)There are some voice channels where only specifi c people can talk, and everybody else simply listens. This set-up is a good one for language podcasts, or as a music channel where they might play Spanish songs, French songs, etc.A language teacher or tutor can also give lectures on a channel, to more students than can fit in a normal physical class. (Or, if their class sets up a dedicated Discord server, they can ask students to come in for the weekend for some bonus lectures.)5) Use video calls and screen sharing for intense language exchange sessions.Youll only be able to use video calls with people youre already friends with, so you need to learn how to add people as friends. If you find somebody interesting in a server youre in, you only have to right-click on that persons username and choose Add Friend. If the two of you, however, are not connected in any way, you can access a friend request box from your friends list where you type the persons name, for example, DiscordName#000. (As with anything in life, this form is case-se nsitive.)OK, video calls. You can do one-on-one video calls or set up a group video call with as many as 10 participants. But lets just say you do one-on-one.This is really where you can do most of the language exchange. You can talk about anything and teach each other anything. Theres an art to language exchange, from finding your partners, to choosing topics to talk about. Study up and apply all these lessons when youre on Discord.Discord also allows you to screen share. You can choose whether or not you want to share your whole screen or a specific application window. This tool comes in handy when youre teaching your partner something and you need something visual to explain your point. You can use Word to teach vocabulary or a web whiteboard, perhaps. Or, say youre talking about parts of the body. You can screen share some pic you got from Google Images and point to the different parts as your language buddy follows on the other side of the world.6) Engage in language exchange whil e playing games! As mentioned earlier, Discord was specially designed for gaming. So why not take a page from that book and use Discord to play games while learning a little something along the way?You can do this a few different ways:Change the language settings of your games. Just as you can change the language settings for your social media accounts to the target language, you can do the same for your games. Instead of showing off your skills and rocking the gaming world in English, why not do it in your target language? Language options will vary depending on the games and system youre using, but it cant hurt to consider your options. Think of the learning opportunities!Play with native speakers of your target language. Look for teammates that speak the language that you want to speak. Learn by osmosis. Hours of gameplay and you wont only be able to yell schieÃen! (shoot) to your German teammates. Youll be able to build friendships that go far beyond role-playing.Play languag e games with people you meet on the servers. If gaming is not really your thing, and you get dizzy at that barrage of video stimulation coming at you, then why not play simple language games instead? They may not have a complex background story or awesome graphics, but theyll hit you with some very educational fun.For example, on the Students of Spanish server, theres currently a text channel called #juego-de-palabras (literally, âgame of wordsâ). To play, you need to look at the last word presented and give its translation. Youll then be able to give your own word (in English or Spanish) with the stipulation that your word must begin with the last letter of the previous word. Other people will continue your work. Fun!Okay, thats Discord for language exchangeâ"in a nutshell.Learning a new language is literally at your fingertips. Were indeed a global village and we can talk to people thousands of miles away as if theyre lounging around in the adjoining room.Take advantage of this reality. Go and explore Discord. Now.Good luck! And One More ThingIf youre digging these language learning tips, youll love using FluentU. Tips for Attention-Grabbing PowerPoint Presentations
Tips for Attention-Grabbing PowerPoint Presentations Whether you are comfortable or not with PowerPoint slideshows, you will probably have to give at least one during your years as a university student. Since most students are exposed to dozens of PowerPoints from instructors and classmates, grabbing the attention of the audience is key. Try the tips below to make your PowerPoint one to remember. Completely Comprehend Your Topic Free yourself to create an engaging PowerPoint presentation by knowing the topic of your slideshow inside and out. Before crafting the presentation, be certain you are confident with every aspect of the subject matter you will cover. You should be comfortable enough to answer questions and concerns beyond the material treated in the presentation. Sharpen the Focus A PowerPoint presentation should contain all the points you would highlight if you were reading about your topic. Condense the subject matter to the most relevant information. Choose one issue or cause related to the subject matter around which you can center your discussion. Opt for Simplicity Rather than presenting complicated paragraphs or long bulleted lists, use one slide for each of your salient points. Whenever possible, include diagrams or photos to get the information across. Use color on your slides to make them more attractive to the eye. Choose easy-to-read fonts, and be sure any text is large enough for the audience to read. Be Careful with Images Keep each slide clean and comprehensible. Although images may best convey the content of your presentation, resist the impulse to present images in a collage format. Large, well-focused images chosen carefully will seize your audience's attention and aid in comprehension. Limit the Special Effects Your PowerPoint presentation may be serious or lighthearted in nature. Either way, let your research speak rather than relying on animation or spectacular transitions to grab the audience. Excessive digital effects are likely to detract from the meat of your presentation. Engage attention for your ideas, not for fun. Prepare a Speech The slideshow itself is only part of an effective and interesting presentation. Just as critical is the script you write to accompany the slides. Write out your entire spoken presentation, and practice it while you run the slideshow. Work on timing, and account for pauses so your audience can absorb the data. Don't Compete With Yourself Make sure your audience is not distracted by handouts while you are on center stage. Many times, presenters print out a copy of their slides so the crowd can follow along. This will take the attention away from you. If necessary, hand out copies after the slideshow or post the slides online.

Allotropes Chemistry
Allotropes ChemistryAllotropes Chemistry is the study of the structure, function and influence of certain combinations of chemicals to enhance their effects on the biological system. There are over a thousand chemicals known as allotropes that play a part in creating human life and they include antineoplastic agents, toxins, fatty acids, enzymes, alkaloids, steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, organic solvents, carboxylic acids, tricyclic antidepressants, amines, amino acids, and lipophilic or fatty molecules. Allotropes Chemistry is essential for scientists, doctors, chemists, chemists and engineers.Allotropes are used in many of the areas of science. For example, acidity is used to treat diseases and illnesses. It is used to treat many types of illness and the anion is the base that acid is formed. This is also used in the treatment of atherosclerosis, as well as certain types of cancers. In another area of science, synthesis and separation of proteins and DNA is used to study this.A llotropes also have medical applications. For example, one type of drug is anti-inflammatory. The diacylglycerol acyl ester is used in treating arthritis, ulcers, high blood pressure, skin diseases, acne, psoriasis, excessive bleeding, stomach bleeding, and hemorrhage. There are other chemicals that are used for the same purpose, such as alpha-tocopherol.Allotropes have many uses, and yet many people still do not know about them. In many cases, a person will experience certain symptoms, such as bloating, constipation, joint pain, or unexplained weight loss. For some people, these symptoms only occur after taking some medication. When a person takes medication, the body is often on a diet, which restricts its ability to break down the food on a daily basis. This results in a decreased production of ATP, which is an energy source needed for muscle movement and is found in the muscle tissues. There are many people who don't know how to deal with this, because it usually just occurs over time and the person begins to lose weight or becomes thin. Doctors are unable to determine the cause of this, because they don't understand what is happening to the body.Scientists at the University of Texas are interested in discovering how to regulate ATP and how it controls the flow of energy in the body. They want to know how to improve the human body's ability to handle stress and how to correct the imbalances that can occur. Their goal is to learn how to apply some chemical derivatives to the human body to increase the metabolism rate and aid in overall health. Allotropes Chemistry can help them understand how the body processes substances and how this can be manipulated in order to improve health.Allotropes Chemistry is a part of all the branches of science and in many cases, the life sciences, and it is all encompassing. This is a broad field that is expanding rapidly in the form of new technologies and information. The field of allotropes can improve health and have many o ther applications as well.
How to Calculate Percent Yield
How to Calculate Percent YieldChemists who are interested in how to calculate percent yield need to become skilled at using mathematical equations. Calculating yield with a formula requires the use of scientific notation. Although it may seem like a simple process, many chemists may find that it can be very time consuming and difficult to understand when they don't have a good grasp of mathematics. However, it can be quite easy to learn how to calculate percent yield if you know how to properly study the formula. To calculate percent yield, you will first need to know the chemical equation used for conversion. The calculation is essentially based on the mass ratio of two different elements and their conversion to one another. For example, copper and nickel are both metals and can be converted to one another through chemical reactions. If you convert copper to nickel, you are essentially multiplying the mass of copper by the mass of nickel. In chemistry, it is not enough for the convers ion to be linear, instead, there must be a way to make the calculations more precise. For this, chemical formulas are used. If you know how to properly use formulas in your work, you can greatly improve your chances of finding an accurate answer when you ask how to calculate percent yield. When you need to know how to calculate percent yield, you will first need to know the formula for conversion of copper to nickel. This formula is known as the bond equation. It will allow you to determine the fraction of copper, you would have to add to a certain quantity of nickel in order to get a certain amount of nickel. This means that the more copper you want, the less nickel you will need to get it.The next step in knowing how to calculate percent yield involves determining the mass ratio of the two elements. There are two different factors that determine the percentage. The first factor is the volume of the material and the second factor is the number of atoms. This means that if you want t o determine the volume, you will need to divide the mass of the substance by the volume. If you are only concerned with the number of atoms, then you would simply multiply the mass by the number of atoms in the formula. Finally, to calculate percent yield you will need to determine the conversion factor from the mass ratio to the number of atoms. This conversion factor is known as the Gibbs free energy. You need to learn about this formula before you can figure out how to calculate percent yield. There are two important facts about this formula. The first fact is that it is dependent on the volume of the substance being converted and the second fact is that you can easily determine the exact conversion factor with the help of this formula. When you learn how to calculate percent yield, you will gain a better understanding of the mechanics of converting materials to another material. In addition, this will help you to apply these concepts to all sorts of situations. In addition, if you are interested in becoming a specialist in this field, you will find that this will open up many opportunities for you. This knowledge can open up many doors for you in your career.

(Source: Skitterphoto)The main question is whether you should teach at your home or your studentâs.Which is the best place to teach? Most tutors teach at their studentsâ houses. Itâs easier for the students to wait at their home for the tutor rather than travelling t o their tutorâs house and it's also an easier sell if you tell your child that they just have to wait for their tutor to arrive rather than travel to the tutor's house.Whether itâs maths, physics, chemistry, biology, English, French, Spanish, history, or geography, students still prefer to be taught at their own home.Of course, theyâll be expected to clean and prepare somewhere to work either in their room, the living room, dining room, or even in the garden (weather permitting) as well as some of the materials theyâll need:TextbooksReports and their exam resultsExercise books and the exercises theyâve done in classWhile students wonât waste time travelling to the tutorâs house, the extra costs incurred by the tutor will be reflected in their hourly rate.Additionally, some students are far too young to travel on their own or maybe their parents donât have the time to bring them to you. Not many young children take the bus or the train by themselves.Academic support classes can help give students a nudge in the right direction, help them to catch up with their lessons or help improve their exam results and grades. (Source: MabelAmber)If you want to keep your students, youâll need to make a good first impression by dressing appropriately.Similarly, itâs a good idea to avoid negative body language like crossing your arms and keeping your hands in your pockets. You should also establish your studentâs level during their first tutorial.Do they need to improve or are they good at certain topics but struggle with others?A level test is usually a good way to do this. You should also ask about the studentâs and the parentsâ goals. Are they trying to avoid having to resit an exam?Would they like an intensive language course? At this juncture, itâs worthwhile ge tting them started with their revision, even if youâre still establishing the personalised teaching approaches youâre going to use. You could go back over exercises they didnât understand at school. You should always ask questions that will help you find the right teaching methods to help them learn. For example, if the studentâs struggling, you could play a game with them that helps them memorise.Parents want their children to have the best courses. The tutor will have to show that they completely understand a variety of teaching methods and didactic tools.Even if you havenât prepared anything for the first tutorial, you can get interactive exercises to help them get the most out of their very first tutorial. We recommend incorporating elements of culture into their tutorials to differentiate it from the drier classes theyâll get at school.Tutors should also offer regular appraisals of their students. Appraisals and level tests are useful for showing the parents how t heir child is progressing.Resources for Preparing Academic Support TutorialsIn order to be ready the day of your first academic support tutorial, you should definitely be on time.Make sure you listen to your student and tailor your tutorials to them. (Source: Couleur)You need to be punctual every other time, too.You should also have a good knowledge of the programme at school, too. A lot of tutors also have qualified teacher status (though this isn't essential).During their training and time working in schools, theyâll have probably gained an in-depth understanding of the curriculum.During a PGCE, students are taught about various teaching approaches and student management technique. Their experience as a teacher will help them understand exactly which part of the programme the student is struggling with.So which resources should you use to prepare your tutorials? As an educator, youâll be expected to help your student to learn. In order to provide quality courses, a tutor has to put together a learning plan. Theyâll also need to provide textbooks, digital tools, and revision sheets. For secondary school students, tutors should consider getting their hands on GCSE and A Level past papers and activities. For primary school students, tutors will use more interactive activities and games to keep younger children entertained and encouraged.Academic Support: How to Teach Students throughout the Year?Preparing your first lesson is one thing, preparing tutorials throughout the whole year is a different kettle of fish. You need to keep them motivated and encourage them to learn on their own.If you're going to be with your student throughout the year, you'll also need long-term plans. (Source: StartupStockPhotos)If you saw and enjoyed the film Captain Fantastic, youâll know that learning at home can help students improve their grades. The film follows the story of a father, played by Viggo Mortensen, and his six children who are outside of the American schooli ng system. The father devotes himself to teaching his children with a variety of different ways. The film shows different teaching methods and how the national education system can leave children behind.Academic support classes are good for those at risk of having to repeat or resit their exams and a good tutor has to exhibit a number of qualities:AdaptabilityFlexibilityBeing comfortable with the subject being taughtListeningBeing rationalNever judging their studentAdapting their tutorials to the age and level of their studentAcademic support classes for primary school students are different from those aimed at secondary school students studying their GCSEs or A Levels. Tutors need to keep an eye on how their students progress.Itâs important to use the right teaching approaches and regularly check your studentsâ progress. In addition to games, you can also use digital tools such as smartphones, tablets, and academic support websites. It can be expensive to get private tutorial s throughout the whole school year. Tutors will have to be patient, focused, and take care of their students throughout the whole year. They may also be expected to drastically change the plan as time goes on. This is why, in addition to being gifted in a given subject, a tutor also needs to be flexible when it comes to the different learning approaches they use.You should also always have backup activities and extra activities in case the student doesn't respond well to one activity or they find everything you've brought to be too easy!
How to Master an Interview
How to Master an Interview Job interviews can be dangerously overthought. Of course youre going to overthink them though, they can potentially change your life. You clearly want to do your absolute best to make sure you say all the right things and practice all the right etiquette. But sometimes that is exactly what can hurt you trying too hard to memorize and perform certain things. Realistically, you need to understand that employers are interviewing a number of people, not just you, so they will easily filter out applicants who they can tell are putting on a show. Now, how do you make sure you dont fall into that category? It all boils down to what you learned back in elementary school: be yourself. Employers want to see a real live person who is genuinely passionate about this field of work, not some robot reciting generic statements that a business article told them to say. Interviewers will recognize predictable behavior a mile away and if they see it they will probably write you off in their mind well before the interview is over. One of the main points of an interview is to test your chemistry with employer, to see if the two of you can naturally carry a productive and enjoyable conversation regarding the kind of work you are applying to do. This is a great way for them to evaluate how well you would be able to work together, and no one wants to work with a boring person whos uncomfortable and not totally sure about the topics they are discussing. Employers will be drawn to someone who is confident about who they are and the work they want to do. In addition to proving you care about this type of work, it is essential that you prove you care about this specific company. Before the interview, make sure you really do your homework and have some knowledge about the companys history and what it is that they do. Explain to the employer why you applied to work for their company specifically and the ideas you would love to bring to it. Even more importantly, have questions prepared. No interview will end without an employer giving you the opportunity to ask them questions of your own. If you dont have any questions, it makes you look less interested in the position and the company itself, tying you back to the robotic image you want to avoid. Having questions shows you are really intrigued by what this company does and what the respective position entails. It shows you want to learn more because you truly are excited by the prospect of working for them. To put all of this advice into simpler terms, an interview should be as personally tailored as possible. Get an extremely good idea of who you will be talking to and prepare adequately. A general performance from you will get a general rejection. Prove to them that you are the right candidate for this job with confidence, sincerity, and by demonstrating your experience; not with nervous, over-practiced jargon. If the interview feels comfortable, youre probably doing something right and it is more likely to be a match.
